Madura

An island just off the northeast coast of Java, that is connected with Surabaya by the largest bridge in the country, the 5.4 km long Suramadu bridge (short for ‘Surabaya Madura’). If ferry is the preferred choice of travel, the ride takes 35 minutes. The island has been Indonesia’s main salt supplier for 500 years and tobacco is produced here as well, albeit to a smaller extent. Madura has a number of beautiful beaches and exotic islands just off its coast, waiting to be explored.
